330 pages (complete). First continental edition (published same year as in London). Disraeli's name does not appear. Á semi-autobiographical novel this was Disraeli's first real success as a novelist. It was sometimes described as the 'most perfect love story'. This edition, even taking its age into account, is in the most charming condition. Gentle, kind and generous-spirited. Marbled boards, leather spine. The boards are worn, benign, gently-aged. The spine has gilt titling (again no author name) with gilt ridging. It is clubbable. Within the fore and end papers are marbled. The front pastedown has an ex-libris plate indicating ownership by the Belgian gentlewoman, Blanche Woodville Day. A direct descendant of the Woodvilles, the dynasty that founded the Tudor line. The contents are most pleasant. There are printer marks at the foot of pages. The pages do have some occasional marks, but the overwhelming feel and aspect of the book is most pleasingly romantic and amiable. The pages are clean, clear, comfortable, assured and contented. The book may be read with trembling pleasure and happiness. Oh! happy owner! fk. Book Condition: Used: Good.
